LinkedIn post: LinkedIn attribution

LinkedIn attribution
Is LinkedIn purely a long-term branding play, or does it actually drive measurable traffic?
We were debating this internally while reviewing our strategy for the quarter. When company goals centre on direct conversions and SQLs, it’s easy to question whether channels like LinkedIn are worth the investment.
We usually view LinkedIn as a supporting retention and trust channel where clean software attribution is nearly impossible. Someone reads a post, doesn’t click or engage, but remembers the update, and comes back weeks later via Google. Analytics logs that as “direct" or “organic" traffic, and LinkedIn gets zero credit.
But looking at the macro data across all Prezly customer newsrooms, LinkedIn *is* driving direct referral visits.
In actuality, it accounts for over 100,000 visitors across our network (about 1% of total newsroom traffic), placing it right alongside ChatGPT for referral volume. For newsrooms publishing company updates and announcements, people actually do click through.
Direct attribution software will always struggle to capture the full buyer journey on social. But the data shows that LinkedIn does more than build background brand affinity.
How does your team evaluate social channels – do you prioritise direct referrals, or do you view them as supporting long-term discovery? And how do those driving company strategy feel about that?
